Tim Scott To Succeed Jim DeMint In Senate

Tim Scott is South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley’s choice to succeed retiring Senator Jim DeMint. Scott, a Tea Party favorite, will be the only African American in the Senate, and the first in the South since the 1880s (!). Scott had been serving in the U.S. House, after beating Paul Thurmond, son of segragationist Strom Thurmond, in 2010.
