When Apple first released the iPhone 4s, the pre-orders were available the same day as the iPhone media launch.  According to MacRumors, “Apple’s policies for pre-orders of its popular iOS devices have varied over the years.”  It was predicted by iMore that pre-orders for the iPhone 5 would be the same day as the media event.
