BCS Rankings: First Week Standings Give Peek Into Best Of College FootballWhile we won’t get official BCS rankings for 7 weeks, the first week standings from AP and USA Today came out today, and help to paint a picture of who is sitting pretty in college football right now. The Oklahoma Sooners took the top spot in both versions of the top 25 standings, while the LSU football squad is ranked no. 2 in the AP rankings. Alabama held on to the no. 3 spot.

The college football BCS rankings won’t be announced until the 8th week of play, but rankings from AP and USA Today were announced today after an action-packed first weekend of play – and there are some surprises. Defending national champion Auburn, for example, fell out of the AP rankings (since beginning the season at No. 23), after barely beating Utah State 42-38 at home. Looks like Cam Newton was as invaluable as advertised. MORE
