A doctor by the name of Helen Carter refuses treatment to overweight patients. And she is not alone. Although it does not happen very often, doctors do have the right to deny patients treatment. According to the American Medical Association’s (AMA) council on ethics, “patients and doctors can exercise freedom in choosing whom to enter into a patient-physician relationship.” Even though the AMA approves of this, one patient Ida Davidson does not.
