O – The Oprah Magazine Faces Ads Drops Of About 13.4 PercentWith her show (Oprah Winfrey Show) wrapped up and her infantile OWN cable network experiencing some serious growth issues, seems like Oprah is losing her captive viewers. The magazine industry as a whole saw an ad sales drop by 7 percent for this upcoming August, but the Media Industry Newsletter, Hearst’s second-most-profitable title, O, the Oprah Magazine’s sales dropped to almost one-third. The cause behind this drop is partly because the women’s lifestyle category is particularly hard hit, with Martha Stewart Living‘s numbers down 14 percent and EveryDay with Rachael Ray down 25 percent. But while most publications regained their footing in September, O’s ad pages for that month were still 18 percent down from last year. These numbers may be staggering; fleeing advertisers may signal a more distressing exodus of readers. MORE
