Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Brings Oscar To Pakistan; Recalls Her Winning Moment
Documentary maker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy returned home to Pakistan as the first Oscar winner of Pakistan.
Returning from the United States early morning, Chinoy held a press conference in her hometown of Karachi, Pakistan. She described the feeling of representing Pakistan at the Academy Awards as one of her proudest moments. Talking about her Oscar journey, Sharmeen thanked all the crew and members of her team, as well as her friends and family who’d made her journey to the Oscars possible. Describing the moment the win was announced, Sharmeen said that it was an ‘incredible feeling’ when the name of her film was announced. She also said that most questions asked were about Pakistan and Pakistanis.

Chinoy made her nation proud when her short film was nominated, and now that she has won the award the entire nation is bursting with joy and excitement.
