11-year-old Nate Smith from Owatonna made went to a charity hockey game with his brother Nick and father Pat Smith this Thursday. There they bought three $10 raffle tickets for a chance to hit a near-impossible hockey shot through a hole barely larger than a puck, with a prize of $50,000. Nate made the shot, but there is a catch that could cost him the big check.

The Antarctic Blast, described by the MetService as close to a once in a 50 year event, has thrown New Zealanders in to full winter storm mode. The public is being urged to stock up on emergency food and water in what is being termed as the worst storm in decades.
The storm has caused blocked roads, schools and airports are shut down, power has been cut in thousands of homes and mail deliveries have come to a halt in certain parts of the country. The storm had also brought snow in places that don’t usually see it, including Wellington and Auckland where snow hasn’t fallen in more than 30 years. MORE
